The ELCA Indiana-Kentucky Synod
As one of 197 member congregations of the ELCA Indiana-Kentucky Synod, we grew from 61 adult charter members in 1948 to around 300 members in 2021.
The ELCA
- The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is one of the largest Christian denominations in the US, with over 4 million members in nearly 10,000 congregations across 50 states and the Caribbean region.
- Known as the church of "God's work. Our hands," the ELCA emphasizes the saving grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, unity among Christians, and service in the world.
- The ELCA's roots are in the Bible and writings of the German church reformer, Martin Luther.
Ecumenism
The ELCA pursues a model of ecumenism called "full communion," a relationship based on a common confessing of the Christian faith and a mutual recognition of baptism and sharing of the Lord's supper. The ELCA shares full communion relationships with six denominations:
- Presbyterian Church (USA)
- Reformed Church of America
- The Episcopal Church
- The Moravian Church
- United Church of Christ
- United Methodist Church
